In 2017, local grocers, farmers, orchards, food distributors, and food drives donated 502,935 pounds of food for Loaves & Fishes to give to our neighbors in need. Donations included meat, fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, baked goods, prepared foods, and dairy, as well as personal care supplies and home health aids that many in need cannot afford to purchase.

When Loaves & Fishes receives donations we cannot give out to our clients, we try to share them with other organizations who also serve low-income people in our community. We have given brand-new mattresses to MACAA's Hope House and the Shelter for Help in Emergency, costumes and clothing to the Shelter, Salvation Army, Ronald McDonald House, and the UVa Children's Hospital, and order-taking notepads to CATEC's food truck.
And what about the food we can't serve to clients?
After our final weekly distribution on Saturday, we donate our leftover produce and baked goods to the Salvation Army's kitchen to turn into meals for the community. And the food that we won't give out to people is donated to area pig farmers!
